Woodford Basin and Anadarko Basin

The play was first drilled in the 1950s, when technology finally allowed for drilling at the depths needed. Drilling was kept at a depth of around 13,000 feet until 1967, when companies began drilling deeper — eventually reaching a world-record-breaking depth of 30,050 feet. That record was broken again in the play in the 21st century when the Lone Star Bertha Rogers well reached a depth of 31,441 feet. The basin has produced over 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, making it one of the most rich natural gas reserves in the U.S. In 2010, the Anadarko Basin was estimated to hold 495 million barrels of oil, 410 million barrels of natural gas liquids, and 27.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas by the U.S. Geological Survey. Anadarko Basin is also the only commercial source of iodine in the U.S. and offers an abnormally high amount of helium within its natural gas resources.
